Discovery Exercise – Blogs and Wikis

Blogs and wikis are just websites, but they are typically much more collaborative in design and purpose. They both provide “easy, quick” online publishing venues or writing spaces. Watch the following video or you may optionally read the transcript.

Discovery Exercise

  1. Go to #EmTechWIKI Discover page and select a 21st-century skill.
  2. Select an Objective that you would like to achieve.
  3. Choose Blogs and Wikis from the Category menu.
  4. Select a tool or resource you would like to explore.
  5. Then, choose one of the options below.

Option 1: Explore Educational Wikis and Blogs

    • Select a Blog or Wiki that shares information from leaders within your field of interest, or through your professional organizations.
    • Reflect on how this impacts your life (e.g., school, work, etc.). Can you see yourself referring to this resource again? If so, how?
    • Add a reflection into your ePortfolio and remember to embed or link to the Blog or Wiki that you explored.

Option 2: Publish Your Own Blog or Wiki

    • Create your own Blog or Wiki. The goal of your Blog or Wiki may be to:
      • Express yourself or share your passions.
      • Share and create content about a topic of interest to you or to others in your field.
      • Extend your own voice or collaborate with others to create community.
    • Reflect on how the Blog or Wiki that you created is relevant to your life (e.g., school, work, etc.).
    • Add a reflection into your ePortfolio.
    • Embed or link the Blog or Wiki that you created in your ePortfolio.
